Batley Boys’ incredible journey in this years Challenge Cup continued as they added Royal Air Force to their list of scalps with a 13-12 win at home. The Yorkshire Men’s League side hit the headlines by beating Underbank Rangers in Round One.
They weren’t the only side below the NCL to progress. Distington, who play in the Cumbrian Mens League, claimed a very impressive scalp as they beat NCL Division One side Lock Lane 12-4 at home.
There were several other upsets in this round, proving the magic of the cup still exists. Millom, who play in NCL Division Four, beat Bradford Dudley Hill of NCL Division One convincingly 24-12.
NCL Premier champions Thatto Heath Crusaders fell to a surprise defeat at NCL Division One side Featherstone Lions as it finished 18-6 and the visitors finished with 12 men. They were not the only NCL Premier side to fall as West Hull were defeated 16-4 at Askam, who play in NCL Division Two.
Elsewhere, British Army were the only Forces side to progress to the Third Round after a 26-12 victory at home to London Chargers.
The only University side left also fell as the University of Hull were defeated against near neighbours Myton Warriors. The two actually play on the same site, on adjoining pitches.
Meanwhile, Hunslet Club Parkside beat Wath Brow Hornets convincingly 24-6, Kells won a close encounter against Orrell St James 8-6. Oulton Raiders, who defeated Siddal in Round One, defeated Shaw Cross Sharks 24-10.
Pilkington Recs were the only team to shutout their opponent as they won 16-0 against fellow NCL Division One side Thornhill Trojans. Rochdale Mayfield were also winners with an 8-4 win against Normanton Knights.
