League 1 returns this week

The Betfred League 1 campaign will get underway this Sunday as last of the top three leagues to get underway.

The action starts down south as Hemel Stags will entertain Hunslet, then half an hour later, North Wales Crusaders kick their season off with a game against London Skolars.

The rest of the games kick off at three o clock with Doncaster entertaining Coventry Bears, Keigley Cougars entertaining Workington Town, West Wales Raiders play their first game under that name as they welcome Newcastle Thunder. Whitehaven also entertain Oldham and York City Knights play host to Bradford Bulls.

Bradford will be looking to stop their demise in League One this season after a couple of years dominated by turmoil on and off the pitch. They were relegated from the Championship last season after starting the season with a 12 point deduction for going into liquidation in the off season.

They go to a York City Knights side celebrating 150 years since their formation. They went close to promotion last season, but just missed out and this provides the perfect test to see how far they have come.

Workington Town should also be an interesting prodigee as they are coached by former Bradford and St Helens half back Leon Pryce. This is the former England’s international first job in management and it will be interesting to see how they get on.

With Toronto Wolfpack now away from the league, this should make it more competitive than ever and should certainly be a league to keep an eye on.
