Championship Round Up: Centurions continue to wobble

Jake Butler-Fleming

Recently relegated Leigh Centurions continue to struggle on their return to the Championship after falling to a fourth defeat of the season at home to Featherstone Rovers.

Two tries for Luke Briscoe and the returning Martyn Ridyard as well as individual efforts from Shaun Robinson, Connor Farrell and Mitch Clark won the thriller for the Rovers. A Ben Crooks hat trick as well as tries for Rhys Evans, Bodene Thompson and Matty Dawson were not enough for Kieran Purtill’s side.

Toronto Wolfpack also bounced back in fine style with a 52-12 victory at the struggling Swinton Lions. Four tries for Blake Wallace, two tries for Jake Butler-Fleming as well as scores from Quentin Laulu-Togagae, Andy Ackers and Jonny Pownell did the damage for the Canadian side. Tries for Mike Butt and Luke Waterworth got the Lions on the board, but they couldn’t keep up with the firepower Toronto have.

It was two good games in a week dominated by bad weather, even Barrow’s game against Halifax was a very late casualty, only called off this morning.
