NRL Sunday: Dragons win big to go top, Knights brought back down to earth by Roosters

St George Illawarra Dragons went back to the top of the NRL after a big 54-8 win over Gold Coast Titans.

A hat trick for Timoteo Lafai and Matthew Dufty and tries for Paul Vaughan, Gareth Widdop, who also added nine goals and Nene MacDonald won the game for the Dragons, who maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.

All eight points for the Titans came from Michael Gordon as he scored a try, converted it and then added a penalty which briefly put the Titans in front but it was short lived.

The Dragons are back on top with a significantly better points difference than the rest of the chasing pack. They welcome Newcastle Knights next Sunday.

As for the Titans, they drop to 14th and they have the worst defence in the league. They face a Queensland derby against Brisbane Broncos next Sunday.

Elsewhere, Sydney Roosters ended Newcastle Knights’ perfect start with a 38-8 victory.

Two tries for Blake Ferguson as well as efforts from Latrell Mitchell, who also added five goals, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Luke Keary, Victor Radley and Cooper Cronk won the game for the Roosters.

A sole Aiden Guerra try, playing against his old club, was all the Knights could respond with.

The Rooster rise to 3rd in the NRL table as they lead the chasing pack to the Warriors and the Dragons. They welcome second placed New Zealand Warriors next Saturday.

As for Newcastle, they drop to 8th in the NRL as their perfect start comes crashing down. It doesn’t get any easier for them as they travel to league leaders St George Illawara next Sunday.
