Championship Friday: Toulouse win top of the table clash as Centurions, Wolfpack, Rams, Fax and Eagles win

Good Friday also gave us a full helping of Championship rugby league.

The first and standout result saw Toulouse win their top of the table clash over London Broncos by a score line of 36-16.

Tries from Tony Maurel, Rhys Curran, Gavin Marguerite, Anthony Marion, Tyla Hepi and Jonathan Ford gave the French outfit victory.

While tries for Jay Pitts, Ben Hellewell and Apirana Pewhairangi was just consolation for the Broncos.

The Toronto Wolfpack also pounced on the dropped points from the capital side as they won 24-16 at Featherstone Rovers.

Two tries each for Ryan Brierley, who also added three goals, and Richard Whiting won the game for the Canadian side.

Tries from Martyn Ridyard, Harry Newman and Luke Briscoe were in consolation for Featherstone.

Elsewhere, Sheffield Eagles claimed their first win of the season after a 38-20 victory over Rochdale Hornets.

Two tries for Garry Lo as well as efforts from Shaun Pick, Ryan Millar, Daniel Igbinedion, Oscar Thomas and Matty Fozard earned the win that took the Eagles off the bottom of the Championship.

Tries for Danny Yates, Rob Massam, Ben Moores and Deon Lewis Cross had kept the Hornets in the game, but they remain 10th and are in danger of being cut adrift with the bottom three teams.

Leigh Centurions’ fortunes continue to improve after thrashing Greater Manchester side Swinton Lions.

Two tries for Craig Hall as well as efforts from Liam Hood, Nathan Mason, Bodene Thompson, Peter Mata’uita and Matty Dawson-Jones won the game for the Centurions, who extend their winning run.

First half tries from George Tyson and Kyle Shelford kept the Lions in the game early on, but they fall to the bottom and remain without a win.

Halifax’s rise up the table continues with a 30-4 win at home to Barrow Raiders.

They won thanks to tries from  Elliot Morris, Steve Tyrer, who also added seven goals, Sion Jones and Conor McGrath. That win puts them up to 5th in the Championship.

A Gene Ormsby try was all the Raiders could respond with as they drop to 9th.

Finally, Batley  Bulldogs won a closely fought West Yorkshire derby against Dewsbury Rams by a score line of 18-10.

Tries from Wayne Reittie, Bradley Day and Jason Crookes won the game for the Bulldogs, who go up a place to 8th.

The Rams responded with tries from Dale Morton and Rob Worrincy, but they now drop to seventh.
