Barely 24 hours after parting ways with Carl Forster, Rochdale Hornets have announced the appointment of Matt Calland.

Calland is a former Hornets player, scoring 60 tries in 120 appearances across three spells as a player.

He also has considerable coaching pedigree as he led Halifax to the 2010 Championship Grand Final as they won on Golden Point against Featherstone Rovers.

More recently, he has been involved with Rochdale Mayfield in the community game.

His first game is against the Rovers on Sunday.
