Championship Preview: Playoff battles and relegation showdowns on the agenda

Knights hope to improve playoff aspirations at Vikings

York City Knights travel to Widnes Vikings in the hope of improving their playoff credentials.

The Vikings need points of their own as they lie just one point outside the relegation places.

Without the Vikings’ 12 point deduction, the two teams would be fighting the same fight in the road for the playoffs and the chance of playing in the Super League next season.

Rovers host Bulls in playoff showdown

Featherstone Rovers will welcome West Yorkshire rivals Bradford Bulls, as both sides look to gain a foothold in the race for the playoffs.

Both clubs currently sit behind the fifth placed York City Knights, and a win could be enough for Featherstone to overtake York and move into the final playoff spot, having already struck a huge psychological blow to the Knights at the Summer Bash last week.

The Bulls on the other hand, were beaten in a close encounter against another West Yorkshire rival in Halifax, and will be keen to get back to winning ways at the home of another playoff rival.

It should be a classic.

Halifax travel to Batley hoping to build on Bash win

Halifax face a second West Yorkshire derby in two weeks as they travel to Batley Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs are coming into the game with confidence after a derby win over Dewsbury Rams at the Summer Bash.

Fax on the other hand will also come in with confidence after their brilliant win over Bradford Bulls.

The away side are also looking to keep pace with the rest of the chasing pack for the playoff positions.

Swinton and Dewsbury look to ease relegation concerns

Swinton Lions and Dewsbury Rams do battle in Greater Manchester in the hope of boosting their chances of avoiding relegation.

The Lions come into the game off the back of their superb comeback win against Rochdale Hornets at the Summer Bash, a result which could have huge implications on both sides seasons.

The Rams on the other hand, will want to pick up the pieces after a damaging derby defeat against Batley Bulldogs at the Bash, and will be keen to get back to winning ways, especially against a side they are likely to be battling relegation with.

Barrow and Rochdale in crucial search for points

The divisions bottom two teams in Barrow Raiders and Rochdale Hornets go head to head in Cumbria in the search for points.

Both sides are in danger of being cut adrift in the bottom two, and you have to think the loser is going to have a real task getting off the bottom of the table.

Both come into the game off the back of promising performances. The Hornets got themselves into a really good position against Swinton, but couldn’t hang on.

It was the same story for Barrow Raiders as they couldn’t quite hold on to their half time lead against Sheffield Eagles
