Woolston Rovers thrashed Leigh East 40-16 on Friday night to temporarily go top of NCL Division Three.

Two tries for Ben Dixon, who also added six conversions, and individual efforts from Wil Maudsley, Lewis Hoarty, Alex Smith, Harry Files and Nick Braide won the game for the Rovers.

Leigh East responded with a hat trick from James Noon, but they fell to defeat at the hands of their nearby neighbours.

Rovers have temporarily gone top, with the rest of the chasing pack playing on Saturday afternoon. They travel to Hensingham next Saturday.

As for the East, they missed the chance to improve their own promotion credentials. They will hope to bounce back next Saturday when they welcome Gateshead Storm.
