Toronto Wolfpack held off a brilliant second half fightback from Toulouse to go 10 points clear at the top of the Championship.
It was a great start for the leaders as they took the lead within five minutes as Greg Worthington managed to get through. Gareth O’Brien converted to make it the perfect start.
However, their lead lasted just ten minutes as Clement Boyer got through this time. William Barthau converted to level the scores.
But then two tries in five minutes had Toronto go into half time in control as Matty Russell scored and Worthington got his second. O’Brien got one conversion and then added a penalty to make it 18-6 at half time.
The French side started the second half well and got a try back six minutes in as Barthau got in on the act. He then converted his try to just leave six points in the contest.
O’Brien then added a penalty for Toronto, but the visitors soon had another try back as Brenden Santi managed to get over. It went unconverted, but there was just four points in it once more.
Toronto fullback O’Brien then added another penalty before Andy Ackers finished the game off once and for all with just three minutes to go. O’Brien converted again to make sure of victory.
The Wolfpack surely now have one hand on the Championship League Leaders Shield and it will only be a matter of time before it is confirmed. They travel to Batley Bulldogs next Friday.
As for Toulouse, it is a second straight defeat for them and now it is about making sure they qualify safely for the playoffs. They travel to Barrow Raiders next Sunday.
