Castleford Tigers women’s player Francesca Townend will not be eligible to play in the Challenge Cup Final.
Townend had been ineligible to play for the Tigers in the tournament, having already played for Oulton Raiders earlier in the season.
She featured in their semi final win against Wakefield Trinity, but will now not be involved in the final against Leeds Rhinos.
The RFL board considered giving the Tigers’ place in the final to Wakefield, but felt it was more of an administrative error rather than a blatant attempt to break the rules.
There will be a further hearing with the Tigers and Townend to discuss a potential fine and ban, but the Competition Discipline Panel will not have any jurisdiction over the boards decision.
