Saints host bitter rivals Wigan looking for third straight win

League Leaders St Helens host bitter rivals Wigan Warriors at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday looking for their third straight win in the league and against their rivals.

Saints come into the game in good form, having come through a hard earned win at Warrington Wolves, before thrashing Hull FC 40-12 at the KCOM Stadium.

As for Wigan, they are the league’s form team at the moment, with six straight victories since Magic Weekend to propel the club from the lower reaches of midtable, to firmly in playoff contention.

The hosts have made two changes with James Roby and Aaron Smith available for selection again after injury layoffs. They replace Joseph Paulo and Matty Costello in the squad.

As for Wigan, they make one change with Morgan Escare dropping out. He has been replaced by Jake Shorrocks.

The match kicks off at 7.45pm.

Key Battles

Lachlan Coote vs. Zak Hardaker- Two goal kicking fullbacks who pose a threat to any defence. Combine both and you have the perfect fullback, between Coote’s defensive abilities and Hardaker’s attacking abilities.

Jonny Lomax vs. George Williams- Two halfbacks who have had a lot of comparisons together in recent weeks. As it stands, this is Williams’ last derby match before he moves down under with Canberra Raiders.

This is a really tricky one to predict, although Saints do have a habit of grinding out tough games. I will go for them to win by one point (8/1 Betfred)
