It stayed this way until half time, both teams were trying hard, but the execution wasn’t there.

The first score of the second half would be crucial and it was Huddersfield who got it as Alex Mellor reached out and just got the ball on the line. McIntosh missed the conversion, but later made up for it by scoring two penalties to stretch their lead to eight points.

Hull KR threatened to make a game of it with six minutes to go as a great pass from Danny McGuire was picked up by Craig Hall, who went through to score. He then converted his own try to make it a two point game.

But the Huddersfield side scored a crucial try with just two minutes to go as Jermaine McGillvary grounded a deep kick into the in goal area. McIntosh missed the conversion, leaving it at a six point game.

It was a nervy final minute, but the Giants saw the game out and claimed a precious victory in their fight to avoid relegation. They have a week off before they welcome Leeds Rhinos on August 2.

As for Hull KR, they are still very much in relegation trouble and will curse that they never got anything from the game. They also have a week off before welcoming Castleford Tigers on August 4.
