Crosfields have gone fifth in NCL Division Two after a convincing 48-6 win over already relegated Askam at Hood Lane on Wednesday night.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for the Warrington side as Askam took an early lead. A lead they would hold until the half hour mark.

The hosts worked their way back into the game and grabbed a try through Matthew Barber. Jack Reid converted to make it a level game.

Once that happened, the floodgates opened as Josh Whitham added another try just two minutes later. Reid converted and then kicked a penalty right on half time to make it an eight point advantage at the break.

Crosfields took just two minutes to make their mark in the second half, this time it was Luke Walker who got over. Reid maintained his perfect record with the boot to stretch their lead to 14 points.

Just three minutes later, the hosts were in again as Whitham got his second. Reid was off target this time, but they still had a three try advantage.

Before the ten minute mark, the hosts grabbed a third try of the half to all but kill the game, this time it was Jordan Williams who scored. Reid was once again off target, meaning the Warrington side led by 22 points.

The hosts continued to pepper the Askam line and grabbed a fourth try in just ten minutes as John Whittaker managed to get over. Reid was back on target to stretch their lead out to 28 points.

The Soap continued their dominance and made it a fifth try in 13 second half minutes as Sam Hickey managed to get over. Reid was again off target, but the hosts were edging closer to 40.

The side in blue did break the 40 mark just after the hour mark as Walker grabbed his second of the night. Nathan Taylor took over on the conversions and scored this one to make it a 38 point advantage.

The result was then rounded off by Taylor, who got in on the try scoring act with eight minutes to go. He failed to convert, but it was still a big victory for The Soap.

Both sides have a short turnover before they are back in action. Both play on Saturday with Crosfields traveling to promoted West Bowling and Askam hosting promotion chasing Ince Rose Bridge.
