Archie Bruce dies hours after making Batley debut

Batley Bulldogs and Dewsbury Moor Maroons player Archie Bruce has passed away just hours after making his debut for the Bulldogs.

Bruce, 20, came off the bench during his sides 46-0 defeat against Toulouse in the south of France. He was found in his hotel room the next morning.

The scrum half had been playing for the Maroons in both the NCL and the Yorkshire Mens League.

Bruce had scored 11 tries for the Maroons in the NCL, and also holds the record for most Man of the Match awards with 11 in just 15 appearances.

He also scored four tries in 16 appearances for the Yorkshire Mens League side in the NCL Alliance.

Inquiries are taking place in France, and some members of the squad have delayed their return to the UK.

The Bulldogs, the RFL and the RFL Benevolent Fund would be supporting the family during this diffcult time.
