Saints win scruffy game against Castleford

St Helens have won their first game since losing the Challenge Cup Final after a scrappy 4-0 win over Castleford Tigers.

The only try came 10 minutes before the end of the first half as Regan Grace stretched out and got over the try line. Danny Richardson missed the conversion, meaning it was only a four point lead.

The closest Castleford came was when Jamie Ellis tried to get on the end of a kick, but was ajudged to have knocked on in the in goal.

Saints had chances to seal it in the second half, but tries for Jack Welsby and Jonny Lomax were disallowed for obstruction.

Both sides had plenty of chances to score, but both struggled to keep hold of the ball on a wet night in St Helens.

That result means Saints pick up the League Leaders Shield with a win. They welcome Huddersfield Giants to the Totally Wicked Stadium next Friday.

As for Castleford, their defence was a real positive, but their attack was often lacking. They have a chance to put it right next week against Hull FC.
