League leaders dominate Championship and League One awards

The nominations for the Championship and League One awards have been announced, with leaders Toronto Wolfpack and Whitehaven dominating the awards.

In the Championship, all the players up for Player of the Year are from the Wolfpack as Andy Ackers, Gareth O’Brien and Jon Wilkin all competing for the honour.

Wolfpack coach Brian McDermott is also up for Coach of the Year, alongside Mark Aston of Sheffield Eagles and Jon Ford of York City Knights.

Up for Young Player of the Year is Swinton Lions fullback Matthew Ashton, Widnes Vikings player Keanan Brand and Joe Cator of Leigh Centurions.

Moving onto League One and Whitehaven’s league leading season is being rewarded.

They have two players up for Player of the Year as Marc Shackley and Dion Aiye are up. Also in with a chance is Oldham forward Danny Langtree and Newcastle Thunder player Nick Newman.

Haven coach Gary Charlton is also up for Coach of the Year, alongside Scott Naylor of Oldham and Anthony Murray of North Wales Crusaders.

The Cumbrians are also involved in the Young Player of the Year nominations as Andrew Bulman is up. Other nominations are Workington Town forward Caine Barnes and on loan North Wales Crusaders forward Callum Hazzard.
