Man of Steel shortlist announced

The five man shortlist for the Steve Prescott Man of Steel have been announced.

All five nominations belong to different clubs. They are; Lachlan Coote of St Helens, George Williams of Wigan Warriors, Jackson Hastings of Salford Red Devils, Blake Austin of Warrington Wolves and Liam Watts of Castleford Tigers.

Coote has been brought in to replace Ben Barba, who was a firm fan favourite at St Helens. But in the short time he has been in England, he fast won the admiration of the fans for his work ethic and set up play.

Williams is in his final season at the Warriors before he departs for Canberra Raiders in the NRL. He has played in an important part in Wigan’s rise up the table. They go into the playoffs having lost only once since Magic Weekend.

Hastings has been a revelation in a season where Salford were expected to struggle. Hasting has been important on and off the pitch, as he continuously engages with the community. He will also leave at the end of the season to join Wigan.

Austin has been a brilliant signing for Warrington. His attacking flare and speed were exactly what the Wolves were lacking last season in attack. Often in games, he has been the difference between the Wire winning and losing, he would often come up with a moment of magic to win the game.

Finally, Watts has had another big season for Castleford in his first full season back at the club. His running game has been crucial for Cas as they survived a mid season wobble to qualify for the playoffs.

The winner will be announced at the Super League awards on October 6.
