The Tongan Prime Minister has intervened in the latest twist in his country’s Rugby League crisis.
Semeni Sika has written to the RLIF to recognise a new body which will handle the Tongan Rugby League team.
As a result of this, Kristian Woolf could be reappointed as Head Coach, which his new club St Helens, have given their blessing for. Frank Endacott, his replacement, has said he would step aside for Woolf to come back.
This also means it is unlikely Israel Folau will be returning to the sport, after the former body announced he was cleared to come back, despite the RLIF saying that was not the case.
If the RLIF meet Sika’s demands, then the current board would be sacked, and the new board are reportedly unwilling to sign off a return for the former star.
