Leeds sign Gale from Castleford

Leeds Rhinos have confirmed the signing of halfback Luke Gale from Castleford Tigers for the substantial fee of £160,000.

Gale is back at the club where he started his career. He came through the academy before moving to Bradford Bulls and then the Tigers.

He hasn’t played in the whole of 2019 because of an Achilles injury, but has been an integral part of the Tigers’ rise under Daryl Powell.

The 31 year old helped the Tigers to the League Leaders Shield and the Super League Grand Final in 2017.

“I am looking forward to the challenge,” said Gale.

“Throughout my career, I have never been afraid to test myself and that challenge has always brought the best out of me.”

“Luke came to see us earlier in the year and expressed a desire to pursue other opportunities away from Castleford,” Tigers director of rugby Jon Wells said.

“The club’s position – as is the case with all players – is that we would not want to stand in the way of anyone who saw his future in another club’s colours.”
