Langworthy Reds have issued a response to the video currently circulating of an incident which took place during their Division Two playoff final against Chorley Panthers.
The match was overshadowed when a brawl took place during their 60-2 defeat. Just when things seemed to calming down, a Reds player then sucker punched one of the Chorley players, who had hit him during the original brawl, which just re-escalated things again.
Both players involved in the incident were then sent off by the referee.
The video of the match had been released on YouTube and brought the incident to the attention of the wider rugby league community.
In a short statement on social media, the club said the incident was “out of character” for the player in question and say “the matter was dealt with by the officials on the day, and by the club.”
