Widnes confirm Sheens appointment

Widnes Vikings have confirmed the appointment of Tim Sheens as their new Head Coach on a two year contract, subject to UK clearance.

Sheens replaces Kieron Purtill, who has joined Hull FC as an assistant to Lee Radford.

The World Cup winning coach has been out of work since being sacked by Hull KR in the summer.

The 68 year old was also in charge of the Canberra side beaten by Widnes in the 1989 World Club Challenge.

A statement from Widnes said the 68-year-old’s appointment “is a huge step forward” for a club that went into administration earlier this year.

“It is an incredible coup for the club,” the statement continued.

“As a club, we believe this appointment gives us the ability to change the course of our future.”
