Community Lions win first tour match

England Community Lions have won their first match on their tour of New Zealand after a 30-18 win over a North Select side.

The Lions went 14-0 up at the break thanks to tries from Freddy Walker of Siddal and Thatto Heath Crusaders forward Jamie Tracey. Scott Spaven of West Hull also added a penalty.

But back came the hosts, as three quickfire tries saw them pinch the lead.

The Lions soon took back control though as three more second half tries confirmed victory. Walker grabbed his second before efforts from Thatto Heath hooker Connor Dwyer and Lock Lane’s Chris Siddons.

Their next game now comes on Sunday against a New Zealand Maori side.
