Wilde and Hatton commit to Widnes for 2020

Widnes Vikings forward Sam Wilde and winger Jayden Hatton have signed a new contract, keeping him at the club for the 2020 season.

Wilde signed for the club from Cheshire rivals Warrington Wolves in 2018 and has since scored nine tries in almost 50 games for the club.

“I’ve been here a couple of years now and loved every minute of it, so I can’t wait to be back in with the boys and get going again,” he told the Vikings’ website.

“Personally, 2019 was a good year for me. I played in almost every game and I managed to get over the try-line a few times as well so I was pretty happy overall. I’m hoping that I can do more of the same next season.

“With Tim (Sheens) coming in, it’s exciting for me and the lads to be working with a coach like him. We’re building a strong squad for next season, so it’s a year I’m really looking forward to.”

Hatton came through the academy ranks at the Vikings, and was named the clubs Young Player of the Year for 2019.

He commented, “Widnes Vikings is my home town team, and I take immense pride in playing for this club.

“I’m buzzing that I get to pull on a Widnes shirt next year again, and build on the year I had last year.

“Personally, I was happy with how my year went in 2019. The opportunity to play in the first team probably came earlier than I was expecting, but I feel like I gave everything I could whenever I played. To play at Wembley for Widnes was a dream and I want to create more memories here.

“The aim for me now is build on that, to impress Tim Sheens and the fans, and keep improving as a player.”
