England Community Lions ended their tour of New Zealand with a 28-12 defeat against a Residents side.
It was the Lions who took the lead early on as Connor Dwyer of Thatto Heath Crusaders managed to get over for an early score. Ryan Wilson of West Hull converted for a six point advantage.
However, they would go into the break behind thanks to tries from Francis Leger and Eiden Ackland. Both were converted by Geronimo Doyle to flip the scores and put the Kiwis ahead by a converted score.
The Kiwis kept that momentum going in the second half and grabbed two more tries through Simon Luafaleo and Ben Ilaio, which took the game away from England.
England would manage to get a consolation as David Kennedy of Orrell St James managed to get over and score. Wilson converted to bring the Lions up to 12 points.
But the final word would go to New Zealand as Tevin Arona scored the last try of the game.
The final score was 28-12, but England can hold their heads up high, as they pushed the young Kiwis close on a number of occasions. They will now build for 2020 at their respective clubs.
