Mirfield Stags have won their first trophy of the season after claiming the BARLA Yorkshire Cup.
They beat Drighlington 16-12 at the LD Nutrition Stadium.
The Stags went into a 12-0 lead after tries from Ryan Fenton and Casey Canterbury. Connor Squires scored the conversions to round up the score.
Drig, who currently lie bottom of Division One, got themselves back into the game as Macauley Bucci went over for the try. Michael Sanderson added the goal to half the deficit.
Mirfield, who are coached by former Super League referee Richard Silverwood, edged back in front when Mikey Otty went over from close range. Squires missed the conversion, but it was still a 10 point advantage.
But it wasn’t game over just yet as Ryan Wilks went over. Sanderson kicked the conversion to make it a grand stand finish.
The Stags managed to hold on for the final few minutes with 12 men after Brad Delaney was sent off.
It was a really good game and fiercely contested right until the end and both teams certainly come away with credit.
The Stags are hoping to continue their brilliant season in the Pennine League when they return to league action in the New Year.
As for Drighlington, they return to action on 4th January, when they welcome Almondbury Spartans.
