League One side Rochdale Hornets have confirmed they have applied for the vacant spot in the Championship.
The Hornets dropped down to League One after finishing bottom of the Championship in 2019, after managing just one win all season.
In a lengthy statement, they point to many things ranging from their links to Rochdale Mayfield, player devlopment, their stadium and history.
They also point out the team they are building, which includes the likes of Fuifui Moimoi, Sean Penkywicz and Joe Taira. The club is also headed in a different direction under the stewardship of former Swinton Lions chairman Andy Mazey.
They add: “In conclusion, we believe that Rochdale Hornets is a Championship club in all but name at present – and would significantly add to the competition on and off the field in 2021.”
