Albert leaves Catalans

Catalans Dragons have confirmed halfback Lucas Albert is leaving the club.

He has not been offered a new deal and has joined Carcassonne in the French Elite 1 Championship.

He made his Super League debut for Catalans in 2015 and is still the youngest Catalans players to have played in Super League.

He made 50 Super League appearances, scoring six tries and 66 points.

Speaking of his departure, Albert said: “I spent six great seasons at the club. I would like to thank everyone for their support during my time at the Dragons. Despite a difficult season, I’m leaving on good terms.

Dragons Head Coach Steve McNamara added: “I don’t see this as the ‘end’ for Lucas more of a new opportunity.

“It has been a very hard year for many of our players without the ability to play games and Lucas more than anybody given the position he plays needs to play games.

“Lucas tried so hard during 2020. His attitude, effort and physical condition improved immensely and if he continues in this way he will give himself every chance of being successful.”
