Dewsbury Rams have confirmed the signing of hooker Reiss Butterworth from Huddersfield Giants for the 2021 season.
He came through the academy at Bradford Bulls before signing for Huddersfield via a loan spell at Batley Bulldogs.
Butterworth made his Super League debut before signing for Batley again on loan. He was also due to play for York on a months loan, but the season was suspended before he could play a game.
On signing Butterworth, head coach Lee Greenwood said: “We’re delighted to bring Reiss to Dewsbury Rams. We were looking for a quality 9 to come in and when we knew of his availability we moved quickly.
“He ticks a lot of boxes for us -young, hungry with loads of potential but has already shown he can play at Championship level.
“There are elements to his game we can help him with but all the raw materials are there. He has been given the number 9 shirt which shows how much confidence we have in him to be a big player for us.”
The club have also confirmed Sonny Esslemont has left the club after getting a promotion at work.
Esslemont made four appearances for the club after signing ahead of the 2020 season from Sheffield Eagles.
