NCL side Blackbrook are mourning the loss of halfback Jordan Welsby, who has passed away at the age of 26.
Welsby was involved in a road accident on Boxing Day following a night out with some of his teammates. The club say he fought a battle with his injuries, but succumbed on New Years Day.
Merseyside Police are currently appealing for witnesses.
The halfback made his debut for the club back in 2011 against Shevington Sharks, and has gone on to become a popular member of the first team squad.
He made over 100 appearances for the St Helens side, scoring 37 tries and 74 goals. Welsby also played a crucial role in their win over Askam in 2016 in the Division Three Playoff final.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to support his family during this difficult time. This can be found here.
