Leigh Centurions have confirmed hooker Liam Hood as their new captain ahead of the new Super League season.
They have also announced new Vice Captains in the shape of new recruits Tyrone McCarthy and Joe Mellor.
Hood, who was the Club’s Vice Captain last season, said he was delighted to receive the honour on the eve of the new campaign.
He said: “This is a huge honour to captain this great Club. I have been overwhelmed by the number of messages I have received since the announcement was made on social media and I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone for their good wishes.”
Hood rejoined Leigh after a brief spell with Widnes Vikings in 2019 but originally signed for the Club in 2016. When the Championship season was suspended in 2020, there was plenty of interest from Super League clubs in signing Hood but he remained loyal to the Centurions.
Half-back Mellor arrived at Leigh from Toronto Wolfpack at the end of last year while McCarthy was a recent signing from Salford Red Devils. Both have a wealth of top flight experience which will be invaluable for the forthcoming season.
