Dewsbury Rams have announced the signing of England Universities International Alex Smith after a successful trial period.
Smith played at University level in 2019 and 2020, representing Liverpool John Moores University, alongside university teammate Alex Eckley, who now plays for North Wales Crusaders.
On signing Smith, Greenwood said: “Alex has been on trial with us, people who watched the Batley game might have seen him come on. He’s been with us since November and got a run out Vs Batley.
“The unfortunate thing for Alex is that he got injured last week leading up to the Wakefield match. We don’t know how serious it is yet.
“He had done enough to earn himself a contract and what we didn’t want to do is leave him in the lurch with no rehabilitation. We want to look after people and so we’ve signed him. If it is a real serious injury then we’ll look to work with him to maybe do a contract for next year. If it isn’t serious he’s with us now so he could challenge for the halfback spot.
“He is a young kid but I thought he showed some really nice touches in that game against Batley.”
