Swinton Lions booked their place in the Third Round of the Challenge Cup after a 23-14 win over Oldham at Heywood Road.
The hosts took the lead after just five minutes, as Sam Grant finished off a good break from Rhodri Lloyd to score. Martyn Ridyard scored the conversion to open up a six-point lead.
Around 20 minutes later, Oldham got themselves back into it after a good attack saw Danny Langtree go over. Dan Abram missed the conversion, meaning they still trailed by two points.
It was a very close encounter, the next points did not come until the second half.
Swinton were able to extend their lead just four minutes into the second half. Luke Waterworth sent Will Hope over for the try. Ridyard scored the conversion to extend their lead to eight points.
Once again, Oldham came back as Tyler Dupree took in a short pass from Lewis Charnock to go over. Abram scored the conversion to bring the visitors back within two points.
Soon after, Ridyard added a try to his personal tally, after powering his way over. He then converted his own try to put Swinton back ahead by eight points.
Another try six minutes later took the game away from Oldham, as Deane Meadows scored in the corner for the Lions. Ridyard was off target with the conversion attempt.
Ridyard landed a drop-goal with eight minutes to go to confirm victory for the hosts.
However, the final word would go to Oldham, as Ben Heaton managed to score in the corner, after being put through by Abram. Abram then missed the conversion.
