York City Knights will welcome Wigan Warriors in one of eight ties in the third round of the Challenge Cup.

The Knights will welcome the record Challenge Cup holders to the LNER Community Stadium, in what will be their first competitive match there involving a Super League side. They have already faced Hull FC in a friendly there.

Elsewhere, Swinton Lions will also welcome Super League opposition, as they welcome Warrington Wolves to Heywood Road. It could be a chance for Matty Ashton to face his old club.

Featherstone Rovers will face Hull FC at Post Office Road, in a repeat of their infamous clash in the sixth round back in 2018. After a late tackle by Misi Taulapapa went unpunished, the match descended into chaos. In total, six players were shown yellow cards, and Bureta Faraimo was sent off for Hull.

Also, Widnes Vikings will take on Salford Red Devils away from home, with a chance for Head Coach Simon Finnigan to go back to his old club. The Vikings also have a number of former Salford players in their ranks in the form of Matty Smith, Logan Tomkins and Adam Lawton. Salford’s Krisnan Inu could also face his former club.

The highlight of the all-Super League ties sees St Helens welcome current holders Leeds Rhinos. The pair have not met in the Challenge Cup since the 2015 semi-finals, when the Rhinos came out on top.

Hull KR will face Castleford Tigers for the second time in 2021, having played each other earlier this month for Adam Milner’s testimonial.

Catalans Dragons and Wakefield Trinity do battle again, after meeting in the Challenge Cup last year, with the Dragons coming out on top behind closed doors in Huddersfield.

Finally, Leigh Centurions will welcome Huddersfield Giants in their first meeting since Leigh were last in the Super League.
