Catalans Dragons made it two wins from two to start the season, as they beat Huddersfield Giants 20-10 at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Catalans struck inside the first five minutes, as Matt Whitley ran onto a short ball and got over. James Maloney scored the conversion to give the Dragons a six-point lead.

Seven minutes later, Huddersfield struck back as Chris McQueen was put into a gap to score. Jake Wardle converted to level the game.

Just after the 20 minute mark, the Dragons were down a man, as Maloney was put into the sin bin for a dangerous tackle.

It did not affect the Dragons too much, as they retook the lead as Ben Garcia rose high to collect a kick towards the in-goal and ground the ball. Sam Tomkins scored the conversion.

With five minutes left in the half, Maloney came back on and scored a penalty to stretch the Dragons’ lead to eight points.

The Dragons then went further in front as Tom Davies broke 70m, and only an ankle tap from Jake Wardle stopped Davies from scoring himself. He was able to get the pass away to Mike McMeeken, who scored. Maloney kicked the conversion to get the Dragons up to 20 points.

Huddersfield needed to score first in the second half, and they did as Sam Wood got the ball in space on the outside and went through to score. Wardle missed the conversion, to leave just 10 points in it.

With four minutes left, Huddersfield were left a man down, as Joe Greenwood was sent off following a high tackle on Samisoni Langi.

For both sides, attention turns to the Challenge Cup next week. Catalans return to the Totally Wicked Stadium to face Wakefield Trinity, while Huddersfield travel to Leigh Centurions.
