Dewsbury Rams avenged their Challenge Cup defeat against Whitehaven, by picking up a 17-8 victory at the Tetley’s Stadium.

It was the visitors who took an early lead, as Lachlan Walmsley went over in the corner after 13 minutes. However, he could not convert, meaning they led by four points.

Dewsbury hit back just before the break as Sam Day was put through to score under the posts. Paul Sykes converted to send the Rams two points ahead at the break.

The hosts struck again nine minutes into the second half, as Matty Fleming finished off a good move down the left-hand side to score. Sykes added the conversion to stretch their lead to eight points.

Dewsbury made it two tries in four minutes, as Fleming finished off a good break down the left-hand side by Michael Knowles to score. Sykes missed the conversion, meaning it remained a two-score game.

With six minutes left, Liam Finn added a drop-goal to seal the game for Dewsbury.

However, the final word would go to Whitehaven. After catching the Rams offside, Haven found the field position and went over through Jason Mossop. Walmsley was again off target with the kick.

Both sides now have a week off before returning to Championship action. Dewsbury travel to Widnes Vikings, and then Whitehaven host Newcastle Thunder.
