Toulouse made an early statement in the Championship with a 21-6 victory over York City Knights at the LNER Community Stadium.
York scored the opening try on 13 minutes, as Ben Jones-Bishop intercepted a pass and ran 90m to score. Kieran Dixon added the conversion for a six-point lead.
Six minutes later, Toulouse hit back as Dom Peyroux went in to finish off a good move for a debut try. Anthony Marion missed the conversion attempt, meaning they trailed by two points.
The visitors then levelled the game just past the half-hour, as Marion scored a penalty after York were punished for a high shot on Remi Casty.
Marion added another penalty right on half-time to send Toulouse in the lead at the break.
Eight minutes into the second half, Toulouse got their second try of the afternoon, as Mitch Garbutt also marked his debut with a try after barging over. Marion scored the conversion to extend their lead to eight points.
Just before the hour, Toulouse scored again, as Johnathan Ford attacked the line, and put Joe Bretherton over for the try. Marion was off target with the conversion attempt.
Marion soon made up for that, by scoring a penalty after York were caught offside.
Hooker Lloyd White then added a drop-goal to seal victory with seconds to go.
It was a real statement win for Toulouse, especially after they lost Latrell Schaumkel and Junior Vaivai early on to head knocks. They now have a week off before welcoming London Broncos.
As for York, it may not have been the result they were after, but there is still plenty of rugby to be played. They welcome Wigan Warriors in the Challenge Cup next week.
