Sheffield Eagles marked the start of the Championship season with a 50-12 victory over Bradford Bulls at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster.

The Eagles took the lead after just four minutes, as Aaron Brown got on the end of a kick to score. Izaac Farrell scored the conversion to give the hosts a six-point lead.

Seven minutes later, the Eagles went further ahead, as Josh Guzdek got through the defence to score. Farrell hit the post with the conversion.

Just past the halfway point of the half, Sheffield extended their lead as a kick from Anthony Thackeray bounced kindly for Brown, who went over for his second. Farrell scored the conversion to extend their lead to 16 points.

10 minutes later, Sheffield scored again as James Glover got through to score. Farrell was off target with the conversion, but the hosts were up to 20 points.

Sheffield managed another try four minutes later, as Joel Farrell finished off a good move to score. Izaac Farrell couldn’t convert.

After the hooter, the Eagles managed their sixth try of the half, as Glover collected a Thackeray kick to score. Farrell was again off target with the conversion.

Just seven minutes into the second half, Sheffield struck again, as Izaac Farrell got a try after supporting a break from Thackeray to score. He was then able to convert his own try.

Bradford hit back just before the hour, Adam Rooks got through the line to score. Danny Brough scored the conversion.

It was soon two tries in four minutes for the Bulls, as Joe Brown supported a break from Jack Sanderson to score. Brough scored the conversion to reduce the deficit to 22 points.

However, six minutes later, Sheffield reasserted their dominance as Thackeray intercepted a pass from Brough and raced through to score. Farrell was off target with the conversion attempt.

Thackeray soon got back-to-back tries, after supporting a break to score. Farrell scored the conversion as the Eagles passed 40 points.

The game threatened to boil over after both sides rushed in with eight minutes left. Joel Farrell and Brough were sent to the sin bin as a result.

Two minutes later, Izaac Farrell was in the bin after a late hit on Steve Crossley.

Sheffield reached the half-century with two minutes left, as Ryan Millar managed to get in on the act. With Farrell in the bin, Glover took the conversion and scored.

Both sides now have a week off before returning to Championship action. Bradford welcome Halifax Panthers, while Sheffield travel to York City Knights in a repeat of their Challenge Cup First Round tie.
