Wigan Warriors put in a clinical performance, as they beat Championship side York City Knights 26-0 in the Challenge Cup at the LNER Community Stadium.
It was an even opening, but it was Wigan who broke the deadlock 20 minutes, as Zak Hardaker finished off a good move out wide. He couldn’t add the conversion, meaning their lead stood at four points.
Wigan’s second try came 10 minutes later, as Jackson Hastings’ high kick was kept alive, before they managed to get in through Harry Smith. Hardaker was again off-target with the conversion.
The Warriors managed a third before the break, as they found an overlap, and Sam Halsall went over for the try. Hardaker scored the conversion to put Wigan ahead by 14 points at the break.
After seeing out a period of pressure at the start of the second half after a good break from Hastings set up Umyla Hanley in the corner. Hardaker scored the conversion as Wigan got up to 20 points.
Just past the hour, Wigan grabbed another as Tony Clubb managed to get over from short range. Hardaker scored the conversion.
Both sides return to league action next week. Wigan Warriors travel to Headingley to take on Leeds Rhinos on Thursday. Meanwhile, York host Sheffield Eagles on Sunday.
