Catalans Dragons saw off Wakefield Trinity 26-6 at the Totally Wicked Stadium to book their place in the Quarter Finals.

After a tight opening to the match, Catalans took the lead on 16 minutes, as Sam Tomkins cut back inside and went through to score. James Maloney converted for a six-point advantage.

10 minutes later, Wakefield got back into it, as a Tom Johnstone kick back infield on the last tackle was picked up by Mason Lino, who went through to score. Lino then converted to level the game.

Just past the half-hour, the Dragons edged back in front as Maloney kicked a penalty after a high tackle on Jason Baiteri.

Catalans struck again 10 minutes into the second half, as Josh Drinkwater dropped the shoulder and spun his way past the defence to score. Maloney was again on target with the conversion to stretch their lead out to eight points.

The French side’s grip on the game tightened when Tom Davies finished off a good move in the corner. Maloney converted to get the Dragons up to 20 points.

There was further joy for them, when Gil Dudson was put through a gap to score. Maloney converted to put the game beyond Wakefield.

Both sides return to league action next week. Catalans host Salford Red Devils next Saturday, while Wakefield travel to St Helens on Friday.
