Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Richard Agar has confirmed halfback Luke Gale will be out for “four-to-five weeks” with a broken thumb.
Gale was absent during their Challenge Cup defeat to St Helens on Saturday, despite being named in the 21-man-squad for the match.
The Rhinos later confirmed he picked up the injury in last week’s defeat against Castleford Tigers.
Agar said: “We got a specialist in to see if there was any way we could strap him up so he could play in this game. But it is a broken thumb, a four-to-five week injury.
“The thing is though with our injuries, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. It’s not long-term.
“The injuries have come about in very different ways. Some are from last season, but most have been picked up in our first two league games, and the trial match.
“They have been broken bones, contact injuries. We will have a couple available next week, and the week after we hope to have around six or seven returning.”
