Batley Bulldogs claimed their first win of the new season, after a 48-10 victory over Oldham at The Fox’s Biscuits Stadium.

They hit the front after just eight minutes, as Josh Tonks managed to mark his 200th career appearance with a try. Tom Gilmore scored the conversion to give them a six-point advantage.

Just three minutes later, the hosts doubled their advantage. Luke Hooley broke free to score. Gilmore scored the conversion.

At the halfway point in the first half, Oldham hit back as Lewis Charnock went over. Dan Abram converted to make sure Oldham halved the deficit.

Just a couple of minutes later, Gilmore added two more points with a penalty.

That advantage was stretched even further just past the half-hour, as Jodie Broughton scored in the corner. Gilmore was off-target with the conversion.

The Bulldogs would score back-to-back tries as Jack Logan went over after good work from Kieran Buchanan to keep the ball alive. Once again, Gilmore missed the conversion attempt.

It was three tries in six minutes to end the half for the Bulldogs, as Ben White supported a good break from Hooley to go over. Gilmore was back on target with the conversion attempt, meaning Batley led by 22 at the break.

Just four minutes into the second half, Batley struck again as Jonny Campbell broke free of the defence and got over under the sticks. Gilmore scored the conversion attempt.

Campbell would get his second 10 minutes later, after getting down the right edge and taking a couple of defenders over with him to score. Gilmore was off-target this time with the conversion attempt.

Just three minutes later, Batley got their eighth try of the afternoon after Elliot Hall got in in the corner. Once again, Gilmore was off-target.

Oldham would get their second try with 10 minutes to go, as Tommy Brierley managed to get through. Abram was off-target with the conversion attempt.

But the final word would go to the hosts, as White finished off a clever Batley move to complete the scoring. Gilmore scored the conversion.

Both sides are back in action next week. Batley host Widnes Vikings next Saturday, while Oldham travel to London Broncos on the same day.
