Hull KR claimed their first win of the season after an entertaining 25-24 victory against Huddersfield Giants at Craven Park.
The Robins opened the scoring with Super League’s fastest try. Huddersfield made a mess out of the opening kick off, and Ben Crooks went over with just seven seconds on the clock. Jordan Abdull added the conversion for a six-point lead.
With seven minutes on the clock, Abdull extended the lead with a penalty after Huddersfield were caught offside.
It was just before the half-hour when the Robins struck again as Crooks grabbed his second try after getting on the end of a Mikey Lewis kick to score. Abdull missed the conversion, meaning their lead stayed at 12 points.
The Robins got back-to-back tries, as Lewis finished off a good break to score. Abdull grabbed the conversion to put the Robins ahead by 18.
With five minutes to go before the break, Huddersfield hit back as Jermaine McGillvary was put through by Leroy Cudjoe to score in the corner. Aidan Sezer missed the conversion, meaning they trailed by 14 points at the break.
Huddersfield struck again 15 minutes into the second half. Jack Cogger broke free, and his kick found Darnell McIntosh to score. Sezer missed the conversion.
On the hour, the Giants continued their fightback, as Jake Wardle managed to get over. Sezer scored the conversion to reduce the deficit to four points.
Five minutes later, Huddersfield took the lead for the first time as Chris McQueen recovered the ball and went over. Sezer scored the conversion.
Hull KR were not behind for long, as Kane Linnett took advantage of a mistake at the back to score. Abdull converted to put the Robins ahead by four.
Once again, Huddersfield fought back and levelled again, with McIntosh getting his second in the corner. Sezer missed the conversion.
With three minutes left, Abdull managed to slot the game-winning drop goal for Hull KR.
Both sides are back in league action next week. Hull KR welcome Leeds Rhinos next Friday, while Huddersfield welcome St Helens on Thursday.
