St Helens maintained their unbeaten start to the Super League season with an 18-10 victory over Huddersfield Giants at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Saints took the lead after just four minutes, after Jack Welsby rose highest from a kick to offload to Theo Fages for the try. Lachlan Coote scored the conversion to open up a six-point lead.

The champions doubled their advantage just before the break, as Mark Percival broke through a gap to get over. Coote scored the conversion.

Huddersfield hit back seven minutes into the second half, as Chris McQueen was put through by Aidan Sezer, and went over. Sezer missed the conversion, to leave the deficit at eight points.

Saints got their two-try lead back just past the hour, as Jonny Lomax took in a short pass and went over. Coote scored the conversion.

Huddersfield got their second try of the night with eight minutes to go. Jermaine McGillvary managed to finish well in the corner after an error from Saints inside their own half. Sezer scored the conversion to bring them back within eight points.

However, they could not get another try, and are left looking for their first victory of the season.
