Castleford Tigers returned to winning ways after a strong second half performance saw them beat Salford Red Devils 28-18 at the AJ Bell Stadium.

The Tigers took the lead on six minutes after Danny Richardson’s cross-field kick found Greg Eden, who went over. Richardson scored the conversion to open up a six-point lead.

Salford got themselves back in it a few minutes later. Kallum Watkins rose highest from a kick and set Kevin Brown up to score. Harvey Livett scored the conversion to level the scores.

With 16 minutes on the clock, Salford took the lead. Andy Ackers went for it out of dummy half and got over. Livett scored the conversion to put the Red Devils ahead by six points.

Five minutes later, Castleford levelled as Paul McShane was able to break free and had Liam Watts in support, who went over and scored. Richardson scored the conversion.

The Tigers took the lead for the second time right on half-time as Richardson scored a penalty after Salford were punished for dissent.

Just two minutes into the second half, Castleford extended their lead. Cheyse Blair got on the end of a Jake Trueman kick to score. Richardson kicked the conversion to open up an eight-point lead.

Richardson kicked another penalty just before the hour.

A couple of minutes later, Cas scored again. A good move saw them keep the ball alive, before Trueman spotted a gap and went over. Richardson was off-target with the conversion attempt.

Salford’s cause was not helped with just over 10 minutes to go. Lee Mossop was sent to the sin bin after catching Richardson late. The former Saints halfback slotted the resulting penalty.

However, the Red Devils would get the final say, as Brown’s chip over the top was collected by Tui Lolohea, who scored under the sticks. Brown kicked the conversion to leave 10 points in the contest.

Both sides are in cup action against each other next Saturday.
