York City Knights came from 14-6 down after half-an-hour to beat Dewsbury Rams 30-20 at Tetley’s Stadium.
The Rams took the lead after 14 minutes thanks to a penalty from Paul Sykes.
Just two minutes later, Dewsbury scored the first try. Joe Martin attacked the line and threw a cutout pass for Matty Fleming to go over. Sykes added the conversion to open up an eight-point lead.
York got themselves back into it just past the 20-minute mark. Riley Dean put in a grubber kick, and Ryan Atkins got there first to score. Kieran Dixon scored the conversion to bring the Knights back within two points.
Just before the half-hour, Dewsbury got their second try as Andy Gabriel finished off a good finish in the corner. Sykes converted to give them their eight-point lead back.
Four minutes later, York replied after Marcus Stock crashed over from close range. Dixon converted to bring the Knights back within two points.
Dixon levelled the match right on half-time after a penalty was given against Dewsbury for offside.
Just two minutes into the second half, York took the lead for the first time. Dixon managed to add a try after scoring in the corner. He was then able to convert his own try to open up a six-point lead.
The Rams were able to get level 10 minutes later. Aaron Hall was able to get over from close range after Jon Magrin went close. Sykes converted for the Rams.
Just before the hour, York retook the lead as Connor Wynne offloaded to Matty Marsh, who went over from short range. Dixon added the conversion.
York opened up their biggest lead of the night with three minutes to go. Dixon managed to break free and set Marsh away for his second to seal the game. Dixon added the conversion to go 10-points ahead.
Both sides return to action next Sunday. Dewsbury welcome Halifax Panthers to Tetley’s Stadium, while York welcome Featherstone Rovers.
