Batley Bulldogs kept their impressive start to the season going with a 30-18 victory against Sheffield Eagles at the Keepmoat Stadium.
The Bulldogs took the lead after 13 minutes, after Luke Hooley was put through by Kieran Buchanan to score in the corner. Tom Gilmore missed the conversion, meaning they led by four points.
Nine minutes later, Sheffield hit back as Rob Worrincy powered over from short range. Izaac Farrell scored the conversion for a six-point lead.
Just before the half-hour, Batley were able to retake the lead. Gilmore was able to break from halfway after picking up a loose ball to score. Gilmore then added the conversion to open up a four-point lead going into the break.
Two minutes into the second half, Sheffield were able to take the lead for the second time. Worrincy got in out wide again after showing some good feet to evade the defence and get over for his 200th career try. Farrell scored the conversion to edge them out by two points.
Sheffield got their biggest lead of the night just before the hour. It was a special moment for Jordan Bull, who marked his debut with a try, after Batley failed to deal with a kick. Farrell scored the conversion for an eight-point lead.
Batley hit back five minutes later. Hooley went over for his second after finishing a Gilmore break to score. Gilmore was then able to score the conversion.
A couple of minutes later, the tables had turned and the Bulldogs went into a two-score lead. Dane Manning was able to power over on the last to score. Gilmore was off-target with the conversion attempt.
With the clock winding down, the Bulldogs struck again to take the game away from Sheffield. This time, it was Johnny Campbell, who finished in the corner for his 100th career try.
There was time for one more Batley try. Elliott Hall finished off a good move to score. Gilmore added the conversion to get the Bulldogs up to 30 points.
Both sides return to action next week. Sheffield travel to Halifax Panthers next Sunday, while Batley welcome London Broncos on Saturday.
