Strong second half sees Keighley past Doncaster

Keighley Cougars recovered from 12-6 down in the first half to beat Doncaster 44-18 at Cougar Park.

The Cougars took the lead after just six minutes. Scott Murrell’s grubber kick found Quentin Laulu-Togagae, who slid in to score. Jack Miller added the conversion for a six-point advantage.

Doncaster got themselves back into it 12 minutes later. Kieran Cross managed to get over from dummy half after Sam Smeaton was stopped short. Watson Boas scored the conversion to level the game.

Four minutes later, the Dons took the lead. Liam Johnson managed to get through in the corner. Boas converted to put Doncaster ahead by six.

That lead lasted seven minutes, as Charlie Graham intercepted a pass and ran almost the entire length of the pitch to score. Miller converted to level the scores.

The Cougars were able to retake the lead just before the break. Aaron levy managed to crash over after a set restart. Miller converted to give them a six-point lead.

Doncaster levelled the match for the second time five minutes into the second half. Matty Beharrell took advantage after Keighley failed to deal with a high kick. He then converted his own try.

There minutes later, both sides were reduced to 12 men.Jake Webster and Ben Johnston clashed in a tackle, which caused players from both sides to rush in.

Just a minute later, Keighley went back in front. They spread the ball out wide, and found Alfie Seeley to score in the corner. Miller converted to give them a six-point lead once more.

The Cougars took their biggest lead of the afternoon just before the hour. Jack Coventry managed to spot a gap and power through to score. Miller kicked the conversion.

Around 10 minutes later, Keighley scored again to take the game away from Doncaster. Brenden Santi took advantage of a moment of hesitation from the defence to score. Miller scored the conversion to make it an 18-point lead with 16 minutes left.

The Cougars grabbed another with six minutes to go. Miller managed to get a try after supporting a good break from Laulu-Togagae to go over. However, he could not convert his own try.

There was time for one more before the end. Once again, QLT was involved, and offloaded to Graham, who went over for his second. Miller missed the conversion.

Both sides are back in action next week. Keighley travel to Barrow Raiders next Sunday, while Doncaster welcome Rochdale Hornets on the same day.
