Castleford Tigers Head Coach Daryl Powell has given an update on their injured duo Peter Mata’utia and Niall Evalds.

Evalds pulled up with a tight calf during the captain’s run on Friday, while Mata’utia pulled out in the warm up with a back issue.

Powell said he hopes Mata’utia will be fit next week, while Evalds will be sent for a scan before any decision is made on him.

Powell said: “Pete came to the game today, I only found out about it on the way to the stadium today, that he had a bit of a back issue.

“Obviously it’s kept him out today, but I do not think it will keep him out for any longer.

“We lost Niall Evalds in the team run yesterday, that probably causes you the most disruption losing your fullback. His calf tightened up yesterday.

“It’s a big issue with five day turnarounds with not a lot of recovery time. We are hopeful its not too bad. He will have a scan, and we will go from there.”
