St Helens Head Coach Kristian Woolf has said Saints will not be making a move at this time for England international halfback George Williams.
Canberra Raiders announced this morning that the former Wigan halfback would be released from his contract immediately, after requesting a release for the end of the season on compassionate grounds. He has been heavily linked with a return to Super League for a while.
With halfback Theo Fages out of contract at the end of the year, it could open up a potential spot at Saints, but Woolf said he was happy with the players currently at his disposal.
When asked about a potential move, he said: Not at this stage. I’ve made it clear we want Theo to stay here, and we obviously love Jonny Lomax and wouldn’t replace him for anyone. We also have Lewis Dodd, who we see as a long-term player at the club.
“As good a player as George Williams is, we’re very happy with the players we’ve got, and we wouldn’t change them at this stage.”
