Hull KR have confirmed back Mikey Lewis has returned to the club following a loan spell at York City Knights.

Lewis impressed in his month-long stay in North Yorkshire, and scored two tries on his debut against Widnes Vikings.

Head Coach Tony Smith said the loan helped him decide what his best position was.

He said: “We want to get our players out playing because there is a real need for that. Mikey has been closely monitored.

“I’ve watched his games and I think he definitely had his strongest game in his last one, which was in a more familiar position. If anything, I think he proved he’s a half-back and not a full-back through that month. It was a worthwhile experiment in that respect.

“He needed that. He’s one of those young guys that needs to play. We have a number of them, and I feel for them. It improves their spirit, awareness, fitness, and desire. I’m hurting for a few other boys that haven’t been able to get out there on loan and develop.”
